Contact
groups for steam modellers.
I used to be able to recommend two organisations of this kind in the world, but sadly the one here in the UK (SCC) has folded, leaving only the US based group NASMA in (possible) existence. Although there are probably several more steam enthusiasts groups of this kind in existence in various countries, I have no knowledge of them, though if any such group cares to send me some information and contact details, I'll certainly consider adding them to this page. The Steam Correspondence Circle (SCC). This group was formed more than ten years ago, by longtime UK model steam enthusiast Dennis Hodges, with the aim of encouraging the building and operation of model steam boats, by bringing together like-minded individuals to discuss various model engineering problems and exchange information in an informal way, mainly through a regular Newsletter but also at occasional meetings. Sadly, due to ever diminishing support from SCC members over the years, Dennis has been forced to give up the unequal struggle, so for the time being at any rate, the SCC is no more. North American Steamboat Modeller's Association (NASMA). Not too sure about the current state of health of this group, they seemed to be doing OK until a year or so ago, when Tom Ray took over from Steve Segal, who did an excellent job of running NASMA for several years. The original plan was to create a friendly forum, by which steamboat modellers could share ideas and construction tips, locate manufacturers and suppliers of good quality products for steam modellers. NASMA published a newsletter four times a year which provided a useful information exchange for its members. Last I heard, membership was static, the newsletter seems to have died, and my last few e-mails have been unanswered. If all that hasn't deterred you, you could try contacting Tom Ray at modelsteamboats@gmail.com maybe you'll have more luck than I did. Tom
